Pillar 03
Authority signals.
Why should an engine trust you over a competitor with the same content?
Authority signals are the off-page layer — backlinks from authoritative domains, third-party listicle mentions, Wikipedia/Wikidata entries, brand mentions on Reddit and Quora, presence on G2/Trustpilot/Capterra, expert bylines with verifiable credentials. The signals the major LLMs were trained on to learn which sources to trust.
Why it matters
Backlinks remain a core retrieval signal because AI engines rely on the same underlying search indexes as Google and Bing. Domains with G2/Trustpilot/Capterra profiles have 3x higher chance of being chosen by ChatGPT. Sites with Reddit/Quora brand mentions have 4x higher citation rate. Authority is the lever that gets you into the AI candidate pool.
