Pillar 06
Engine-specific coverage.
Each AI engine has its own quirks — optimize for the engine, not the abstract.
Engine-specific coverage is the recognition that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude don't behave identically. ChatGPT's search step uses Bing's index. Perplexity has its own retrieval index and weights freshness heavily. Gemini surfaces AI Overviews from Google's main index. Claude's web search has different robots.txt requirements. Each engine rewards different optimization moves.
Why it matters
Generic AEO advice that doesn't engage with engine-specific behavior leaves leverage on the table. Perplexity cites 8-12 sources per answer compared to 3-6 for ChatGPT and has lower authority bias — mid-tier sites can rank there before they rank on Google. Each engine deserves its own playbook.
